The Red Vine

The Red Vine closed for business on 25 April 2006, and gave a farewell party the night of the 28th (friday)

Beautiful restaurant, good food and service at decent prices. Crowd is from all over the metro area. Both lunch and dinner service. The dance pictures at the bottom are from the starting thursday tango night and just below from a saturday night with the KC Allstars who managed to get everyone up and dancing. The Red Vine has dining service at the same time - late even. We had terrific food (try the sweet potato cheesecake then go to confession) at good prices. The house was packed.

(Above) From a saturday night - dining, dancing, music - good fun.

Earlier in the evening while you can still see the room before it fills up.

Red Vine (including a saturday with the KC AllStars)

The Red Vine closed for business on 25 April 2006, and gave a farewell party the night of the 28th (friday)

I found out when I walked up to the Red Vine for a meal during dinner break at City in Motion rehearsals at the GEM for their concert (20th Anniversary) the next evening. It was bit of a shock. I always feel the hurt of a business going out of business. I really hate to see this but I don't think they ever got enough traffic through there. I really think there is a problem with attracting businesses and other enterprises in the "Jazz District." I won't know how to fix it but I remember a few years ago when I talked to the owner of the Mardi Gras Club (now also closed) who wanted to know where the promises of traffic were. He had already waited several years and nothing was building at that point. So now, a really nice restaurant and dancing place, The Red Vine, is gone.

I am lost without The Red Vine. I don't have anywhere to go out to enjoy great music and good food. I have not been to another jazz club since I discovered The Red Vine two years ago. I always felt at home there. I went to The Red Vine last Saturday and I swear I almost cried when I saw that you were closed. I have been bragging to a friend of mine in Lawrence about The Red Vine for two years and I finally got her to come up here to help me celebrate my birthday. We were both very disappointed. We tried to salvage the evening and decided to go to a place that I had heard that had live music. We were robbed at gun point about 30 feet away from the place. I am not sure if my friend will come to KC again.

I will miss you Sabrina and especially your sweet potato cheesecake. Thank you for all the good times.Angela Woods
