The following text is excerpted from the American Ballroom Dance Studio's brochure (that means typo-o's are mine!). There are no contracts. Pay as you go. American Ballroom is owned by Alfie McKie. It is beautifully appointed with nice furniture around a very spacious ballroom floor.

Lessons

Your first lesson is free unless of course you have already participated in a prior studio promotion or enjoyed the benefits of a complimentary service offered by the studio in the past.

Private lessons are 45 minutes in duration and we do not take more than two people per teacher.

The cost is 50 dollars (might no longer be a current rate, check with Alfie) per couple or single person. We have a pay-as-you-go policy and ther are no contracts to sign. The only commitment you make is to yourself and not to the studio.

We are open by appointment only from 9 am with our last session of the day commencing at 9 pm, Monday to Friday and 10 am till 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.

The Dances We Teach (in the "American Style")

Ballroom Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Fox Trot, Quick step, Peabody, Tango, Argentine Tango

Rumba, Bolero, Samba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Merengue

East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing
 

Parties

If you wish to become a good social dancer it only makes sense that you should practice what you have learned.
 
• The Social

 
Mostly a practice session that runs for one hour and a half on a Friday evening from 8:30 till 10 and is only open to our members.
 
• The Party

Runs about two hours, also on a Friday from 8:30 till 10 or 10:30 pm. These are for our members and any friends of a member who might be interested in taking lessons at the studio.

If on a party night we anticipate a large turn-out of guests we will be happy to schedule a 30-minute open group class commencing at 8 pm. This will help your fiends get around the dance floor and join in the fun with everyone else, which as we know is always better than just sitting around and watching the fun.

 
The socials and parties are an ideal opportunity to meet and dance with a group of other people you would be glad to call your fiends, and who are also enjoying the wonderful world of social dancing.

Things to Remember

In order to get the most from your lessons, we suggest that you keep your first few sessions as close together as possible.. that way, you are less likely to forget all that you have recently learned!

Try to attend a Social or Party after your first lesson, and try to dance every dance (even if you haven't learned it yet!). Dance with everyone! Don't be shy, remember we were all beginners once. The etiquette of the Gentleman asking the Lady to dance is disregarded in the Studio, so Ladies, Many of the Gentlemen, especially newcomers, will appreciate your help in getting them started.

Learn about the BONUS LESSON system. We know that "Word of Mouth" is the best form of advertising, and we reward our students well for this. Those who get the friends to join the studio, receive large discounts on lesson time. Some of our students have achieved high standards of dancing throught he bonus lesson program. You can too.

We are the only ballroom dance studio in Leawood and we are very conveniently located at the back of the north side of the Ranchmart North Shopping Complex. You will see a McDonalds on the North East corner of 95th and Mission road. Diagonally behind that you will see a Hallmark Showcase store and diagonally behind that you will find us. As you turn the corner you will see the sign for the Ranchmart TV store. Our door is to the right of their entrance.

A Note from the Owner

Welcome to the Studio! People come here to learn to dance for hundreds of different reasons; exercise, meet and make new friends, fulfill a social obligation, for health and relaxation, because of a love of music and so the list goes on. Whatever your reason, I'd like to think that we can help.

From the time you enter the studio we will plan you lessons so that you achieve you goal as quickly as possible. If you need to learn a simple dance for a wedding then that is what we will concentrate on but if your dancing goals are not yet clear, then we will help you plan your way.

We are a member of The Association of Ballroom Dance Studios. By being a member of this national organization we are in contact with studios from coast to coast and we are assured that our standard of instruction are up to the minute.
