Two dance floors in here (one for each club). The first is down
in a pit area and has a lot of room. I haven't visited on each night to
see how the crowds change but on a recent Saturday it was a 20's crowd.
My guess is it probably stays a mostly 20's crowd. Absolutely no one was
on the dance floor earlier. About 10:30 or later the floor suddenly began
filling. Mostly up and down disconnected stuff.
But we had a great time doing swing (west coast and east coast
and cha cha, also good - natural - hustle music). The music never stops
and you can just keep on turning! It is at pretty high volume and permeates
everything, although it didn't feel punchy.
Pictures at the top are from an August night out during a Beata
Howe workshop with the Kansas City Swing Club and the Wichita Push
Club. Workshop teacher and national swing champion dancer Beata Howe is
in the top left picture (white vest).
Pictures at the bottom show Atlantis shortly after their 9pm opening
time. The floor can be your own practice floor, almost undisturbed for
an hour or an hour and a half. The top pictures are around 10:30 and by
11 or 11:30 the place is body-to-body packed.
