Walters Dance Center is home to a number of independent dance teachers who rent floor space and teaching time from Walters. These teachers are not employees of Walters. Some of them, in addition to private lessons, have set up group lessons. (See group lessons below.)

Lessons by Alan Clements - Mondays/Tuesdays/Wednesdays

Easy-to-afford prices - $6 per person for each Monday or Wednesday group lesson night, couples or singles. New people are welcome each week. Alan Clements is the instructor. Monday nights at 7 pm, also Tuesday nights (at Hillcrest, see below) and Wednesday nights. Classes cover one dance at a time (depending on the evening) for two month periods (starting with January and February). For more information call Alan Clements at 299-3517.

Lessons with Marta Elder (913-328-0060) on Thursday nights, 8 pm to 9 pm. Practice 9 pm to 9:30 pm. Four-week sessions: $25 per person per four-week session. Studio parties some saturdays, as announced.
Marta teaches: Beginner to Advanced, Social dancer, Competitive coaching, all divisions, Country Western, Ballroom, Latin, Swing & Hustle. She has been a professional instructor for 20 years and judge, competitor and performer. Privates, Groups and Workshops.

Walter's is located at 5023 Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, KS 66102 (51st and State Avenue, behind Blockbuster's) 913-287-3355. Walter's is on the south side of State Avenue, just west of the Indian Springs shopping center, barely over the top of the hill.The Minnesota address is a little misleading. Take State west from I-635 up the hill and just barely past the crest of the hill. On the left (south) side of the road is a small section of road (Minnesota) which looks more like a driveway than a road. It leads right to a house with a commercial building attached (somewhat behind Blockbuster's) and a lot of cars (especially as you get closer to class time). That is Walter's. Once inside you will find a nice living-room like front room with a ballroom attached. The dance floor seems large enough for a basketball court and is one of the very nicest ballroom floors in the area.
