From Studio to Theater - what practice in studio allows later in theater
Spring Fairies (Top: Elise Johnson in dress #1 [7pm Sat], Bottom: Annie Cook in dress #2 [2pm Sat]) Combines four jetes in two rehearsals with two casts.
If you think you've seen this elsewhere on the page it is because I prepared earlier versions before I had time to put together this study. As a photographer, I also need practice (rehearsals) to know what is coming up. The study above shows the Spring Fairie roles by (on the left) Elise Johnson and (on the right (Annie Cook). On the bottom are the studio shots and on the top are the shots by the time we get into theater. These show a pair of jetes performed by each dancer. The first one starts upstage center then a second jete heading downstage left. In studio shots, on the first jetes of each pair I shot a bit late. On Elise I was slightly late and on Annie just plain late. I manage to get the right moment for each of the second jetes. On stage they are all at the right spot with maybe a tad late on Annie's the first jete.
