Andrea Skowronek wrote
in the program: "Legend has it that the Arcadian nymph Syrinx,
fleeing from the god Pan, begged the Naiads to change her into reeds
growing on the river bank. Pan, thinking these reeds hid the nymph,
cut them down. Sighing over the reeds, Pan ound they gave forth a
musical sound, where upon he fashioned them into flutes. I grew up
hearing my father, flutists Felix Skowronek, playing "Syrinx." This
piece is dedicated in loving memory to him." |
