Althought thursday attendance was a bit sparse friday and saturday saw almost all the 600-seat White Recital Hall's seats filled. On saturday the audience had to fight a parking-lot re-surfacing project and many had to park blocks away. Even so, White filled upIt is really a delightful production. (This was) An easy recommendation for one of this area's world famous modern dance companies.

On "Sweet Otis Suite"
Here is a lift from Nicole English's article on the origins of the Otis Redding piece. The timing of the premiere was poetic, yet fitting, since this is the 40th anniversary of Otis Redding’s' untimely death (Dec. 10th, 1967) in a plane crash at age 26, just before the release of his best-known hit song, "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay." It is also the 16th anniversary of the tragic death of Leni Wylliams, former UMKC faculty member and co-founder of the dance company, who was brutally murdered in his home on Sept. 13th, 1996.
The hit song was to be a solo for Leni Wylliams, as a collaborative work choreographed by Mary Pat Henry. The work was abandoned after his death, but always lingered in Henry's mind, as an important piece of business yet to finish.
